Theodore Lee Professional Development of ICT Integration for Teachers


In past decade, the use of ICT in schools increased exponentially. However, ICT integration in teaching is still utilized at a low level. While many ICT professional development programs for teachers focus mainly on developing teachers' technical competency, the effect of their attitude, perception and emotion towards ICT integration is usually neglected. In this book, a social approach to professional development of ICT integration is argued to be important to improve ICT integration. A research was conducted to look at issues of ICT integration from the teachers' perspective and to explore the impact of peer support in enhancing ICT professional development. Based on the research findings, this book draws the focus on developing teachers' intrinsic motivation towards ICT integration. Peer support is found to be an enabler of intrinsic motivation. A sustainable peer support enhanced professional development model is thus developed. This book should help shed some light on developing ICT professional development programs for teachers and should be especially useful to teachers, professional developers and school leaders who want to lift ICT integration to a higher level.

Despite the commitment to promote equity and excellence in education, significant gaps remain in understanding the numeracy development of students with special needs. How these students become competent with fraction ideas, essential skills needed to become numerate and learn higher mathematics, is unclear. Most studies rely on an experimental design to teach basic skills through drill and practice, very few focus on conceptual understanding, learning more complex mathematics, or researching teacher professional development. This book reports the learning journey of three middle school teachers and their students with special needs. Using design based research method, a range of activities and instructional games were designed to teach for conceptual understanding. Analysis of classroom interactions helped identify the connection between teacher knowledge, learning activities, and student learning, and in turn, contribute to our understanding of how to help these students to become numerate.

Dedicated teachers learn throughout their careers, actively participating in a culture where they learn more about the content they teach and about the instructional and assessment practices they use with that content. To change their practice, teachers must go through a regular process of self-analysis, inquiry, and reflection. This book consists of a study conducted at a state university in Turkey to encourage professional development of English language instructors. Critical Friends Group (CFG) model was applied to promote teacher collaboration. Through a development-based in-service teacher training (INSET) programme, participant teachers in the School of Foreign Languages were expected to explore their own professional development, as well as to foster peer development by the help of CFG.

Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2013 in the subject Pedagogy - Common Didactics, Educational Objectives, Methods, Hooks Independend School Distict, language: English, abstract: The effectiveness of an Integrated STEM Professional Development Model for elementary teachers was evaluated in terms of students' perceptions of the classroom learning environment and student outcomes towards mathematics. The sample consisted of 664 grade 3 - 5 mathematics students from 41 mathematics classrooms. Students from a STEM focused elementary school (Morriss) provided 191 student responses with 473 student responses coming from 4 other elementary schools within the same school district. The students responded to a learning environment questionnaire based on three scales from the What Is Happening In this Class? (WIHIC) and the attitude scale from the Test Of Science Related Attitudes (TOSRA).Factor structure, internal consistency reliability, discriminate validity, and the ability to distinguish between different classes were supported by data analysis of Morriss and Other student groups. An ANOVA was used which produced statistically significant differences in the Cooperation scale. Morriss students' perceived higher levels of cooperation in their classrooms relative to Other students from schools within the same school district. This report identifies obstacles that high school students with visual impairment experience in the curriculum areas of Other Learning Experiences (OLE) and School-based Assessment (SBA) in mainstream secondary schools in Hong Kong. The report explores and recommends various solutions for overcoming or minimizing these obstacles in the context of the new Senior Secondary Curriculum. Twenty-five participants were interviewed, based on a structured questionnaire. They were asked to describe all the obstacles they have encountered in school-based assessment and OLE. They were also asked to suggest how teachers could minimize their difficulties and help them cope with obstacles. It was found that most participants encountered difficulties in OLE. Problems were specifically related to community service, aesthetic development and physical development. School-based assessments also presented difficulties, particularly in three compulsory subjects (Chinese Language, English Language, Liberal Studies) and the elective subjects of humanities.
