The challenges presented by business environments worldwide require managers to have a strong sense of leadership. The wealth of literature on coping and resilience lacks a fundamental theory to link coping with leadership; on the contrary, the popular cognitive resource theory of leadership states that leaders lose their cognitive skills under stress, and advocates the value of experience only in the face of challenges. LEADERSHIP AND COPING is a researched based book , it weave the relationship between leadership style and the ability of a leader to cope with the stress of uncertainty in business. Sandoval Jose How Benefit Finding Leads to Improved Outcomes in Prostate Cancer


The present study used hierarchical linear modeling to examine correlates of benefit finding at study entry and individuals trajectories of benefit finding over time among men treated for early stage prostate cancer (n = 261). Correlates associated with benefit finding at study entry included intrinsic religiosity, perceived social support, perceived present control, approach coping, use of emotional support, avoidant coping, and religious coping. Within-persons changes in optimism, perceived social support, perceived present control, approach coping, use of emotional support, avoidant coping, and religious coping were associated with within-persons changes in benefit finding. The association between the trajectories of perceived social support and benefit finding was partially mediated by approach coping and use of emotional support. The findings suggest that coping responses may represent an important mechanism through which changes in benefit finding occur.

Work stress is common in most professions. However it has crossed its limits in IT sector due to heavy work pressure and time deadlines. This study aimed at assessing the levels of occupational stress among IT employees and coping mechanisms adopted by them; the influence of secondary variables, age, gender,education, designation and marital status on stress and coping; the relationship between stress and coping mechanisms adopted;influence of family environment on stress and coping.600 IT employees answered questionnaires on Occupational Stress Index(Srivastava & Singh, 1984)and Coping Check List(Rao,et.al 1986. The study revealed that occupational stress for the entire sample as moderate; employees were found to use unhealthy coping and high risk coping mechanisms, which are negative approaches to cope with stress. Relationship between stress and coping was found partially;influence of secondary variables was lesser;family environment was the most significant factor contributing to stress. This book is an eye opener for companies, policy makers as well as Governments to address needs of employees in fulfilling their family obligations, thereby reducing stress levels.

Akhona Myendeki Job Stress, Burnout and Coping Strategies


The aim of this study was to determine whether coping strategies of police officers help moderate the outcome of burnout resulting from job stress. The nature of the job demands of police officers is such that they may experience high levels of stress. A convenience sample (N = 89: n Males = 58; n Female = 29) of police officers in police stations in the Eastern Cape was surveyed. The Maslach Burnout Inventory - General Survey, Police Stress Inventory and COPE questionnaire were administered. Results for all the participants indicate that when the occupational stressor Lack of Resources occurs police officers implement Avoidance Coping (COPE) as a strategy, which leads to the experience of Exhaustion. Results also indicate that police officers use Active Coping, Cognitive Coping and Turning to Religion as means of moderating the stress-burnout relationship. Results also show that the coping strategy Avoidance Coping, used by male officers lead to Cynicism. When female police officers experience Job Demands and a Lack of Resources they make use of Seeking Emotional Support as a coping strategy.
